Our goal is to open a museum by 2011. Our intention is to raise $3 million in 2010 in order to do that. This capital campaign will work if individuals and groups adopt us with a passion. Please consider becoming a founding member and show your support. Even if you don't live in this community, please accept our invitation to support this effort.
fundraising history thus far -
In
order to raise our first $750, we held two garage sales and a car wash.
We then held our first major fundraiser on April 30th,
2009 and
grossed almost $10,000!
Our next
fundraising attempt was in May of 2009 with a donation-only garage
sale, and it
raised almost $1300.
In August of 2009 we held our first annual Discovery Day at Island Park in Mount Pleasant with live music, local food, and interactive activities for all ages. Local organizations underwrote the effort, including: The Morey Foundation, The Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe, Isabella Bank and Trust, Dow Corning, Smith Equities, Krapohl Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, American Chemical Society, & GreenTree Cooperative Grocery. Local groups were in attendance, too - including: PEAK (partners empowering all kids), Blind Children's Fund, American Chemical Society, The Science, Mathematics, & Technology Center, CMU Public Radio, & HATS (humane animal treatment society). Over 200 local people came on a cold day in August. While we profited another few thousand dollars, the greatest benefit came from the actual event and the partnerships created.
Our
next adventure is to open a magnetism exhibit at the CMU Cultural and
Natural
History Museum in May of 2010 with various fundraising efforts attached.
Any and all support of the museum is welcome, and individuals who have
a
specific interest in fundraising are welcome to e-mail Jennifer
Fields,
MPDM Board Chair and fundraising committee chair.
